Hello Friends from near and far. You may well know Street Roots as a newspaper by and for people engaged with homeless advocacy and grassroots news, but the project and community at Street Roots is a wonderful web of community beyond the paper as well.

This year comes a long-awaited remodel to the Old Town Street Roots headquarters that will further enliven a space that already brings hope and community to so many. With the use of natural materials such as round wood, wattle and daub, and salvage doors and windows, partition walls will be crafted over the course of a week at the City Repair headquarters in SE, and be installed the following weekend at Street Roots when no one is working. Wall panels and reclaimed doors will provide sound insulation for reporters working at their desks, and along with textures clay paint, bring a new wholeness to the space that is long past overdue. Other features such as round wood posts and beams will provide framing for the partitions and help the hard working reporters connect to nature while they work for a better future. This is a immensely special co-working process that will bring together some of the most prolific and experienced natural builders in our community with houseless rights and being advocates, and we will need many hands to make this all happen!. So, in an effort to give back to our community - particularly some of the folks who need it most - come on down to the build and / or the installation and help transform Street Roots!
