Intersection PAINTING
June 30th & July 31st

June 30 & July 1st 9am-6pm both days (but come Sunday if you want to help with the super-creative colorful part!) Pollination Station is a neighborhood-organized intersection painting project that speaks to affirming the strength of community through the symbology of bees. We felt that it was especially important to create a community-designed painting right at the border of where Portland’s accelerating urbanization is interacting with the older homes in the area. The bees reflect community collaboration towards a larger vision, creating honey out of the beauty of the natural world and from our authentic interactions with one another. This project aims to create a space where people slow down, talk to one another, notice beauty, and tap into the natural rhythms of the ecosystem interacting with our neighborhood in its various stages of change.
DETAILED SCHEDULE:
Saturday, June 30th: This day we will focus on laying out the very basic design and painting the primer first-thing in the morning, letting it dry, and then laying out the basic geometrical structure of the honeycomb. If we have time we’ll start working on the honeycomb colors. Refreshments will also be offered!
- 8am: Set up barricades and supplies
- 9am: Paint primer
- 10am: volunteers welcome to help paint!
- 6pm - wrap up shop for the day
Sunday, July 1st: This is the main day to help out! It will be a more creative painting day where we will be filling in the colors of the honeycomb, painting the flowers, and we'll have a huge rainbow ring encircling the whole piece where kids and families can go crazy painting whatever they want! Kids are very welcome. We’ll also have refreshments, some food, shade, and hopefully music going all day!
- 8am: Local volunteers set up block party supplies
- 9am - evening: We’ll paint until we’re done!
