We are coming together as a community, pooling creativity and motivation while building a stronger network of neighbors.  Our hope is that the painting will greet walkers, bikers, skaters, runners and so many more on one of Portland's many bike friendly streets.  This brings together the residents of Sabin to organize, fundraise and plan around the beautification of the intersection.  Come paint with us on July 16, 2017!

July 15, Sat: AM; Power wash and scrub street to prep for paint. PM; begin chalking design.
July 16, Sun: 8am; Finish chalking drawing if it has not been completed the day before. 9-10am; Start Painting!! There will be beverages and things to much on throughout the day for volunteers. We hope to have a BBQ and great tunes flying to keep the fun flowing. Kiddo activities such as drawing and instruments will be provided to keep your kids entertained.

Come join the fun and festivities on July 16th! We love meeting new people and getting to know neighbors better.

Emerson Street Painting

Emerson Street Painting

Emerson Street Painting (map)

NE 70th Ave. is a multi-use path that many neighborhood children use to access Scott Elementary. Our neighbors often use this path as a safe north-south alternative to busy NE 72nd Ave. for dog walking, running, and cycling.

Over the past several years, we have worked to make this path more welcoming for the Cully community. A community herb garden was constructed in 2014 with the support of a Cully Association of Neighbors mini-grant. The garden was recently expanded to include a raspberry patch, community free library, tiny benches and native plants.

An intersection painting project, designed by local families, will ensure that this space continues to be welcoming for all folks who live on Emerson Street and the Cully neighborhood in general. The design is a rainbow butterfly, which represents migration, diversity and inclusion. Monarch butterflies (representing Latino families) and bright blue butterflies (representing Somali families) will also be painted up the path.

We will be painting all day! Followed by a block party for Emerson Street and Cully neighborhood residents.

Kerns United Intersection Repair Project (map)

The principal project goal is to provide an opportunity for all residents and business in the neighborhood to participate in the project and to get to know other each other in an informal setting.

This project is a small-scale (1 day) neighborhood project, undertaken by volunteers, focused on building relationships between neighbors, strengthening the neighborhood identity and creating a sense of place within the larger urban environment.

OnGoing Community

OnGoing Community

Ongoing Community (map)

The OnGoing Community strives to demonstrate neighborhood block-scale food, housing, and cultural resiliency. The Going street artery is a major bike thoroughfare. We raise goats, are a part of a 5-house-twice-a-week dinner program, grow hundreds of pounds of food, host events, practice permaculture and general urban guerilla planting tomfoolery. Come play!

The OnGoing community will be hosting a hootenanny worth of hands-on, village-style learning and creative art projects on July 16th from 10am-4pm. We'll be painting the street, serving delicious local foods, hosting workshops, gardening and offering neighborhood-class childcare!

Music and shade provided.

Hollywood Garden Mural

Hollywood Garden Mural

In 2016, over 100 volunteers came out to paint the Hollywood Garden Mural on NE Hancock Street between 44th and 45th - a block which hosts the Hollywood Farmers Market each Saturday. Taking its inspiration from the bountiful produce on display at the farmers market, the mural takes the form of a garden, with a path of stepping stones winding its way around fruits, vegetables and vines. This is one of the largest street paintings in Portland, stretching curb-to-curb along 100 feet of Hancock Street. On market day, it serves as a beautiful carpet for the farmers market, and throughout the week it leaves a reminder of the market on the street. Now that it's been a year (and a brutal winter), it's time to repaint the mural. Help us re-beautify this block of the Hollywood neighborhood

(Note that our rain date backup is July 23rd. Check Facebook page for announcements as we get closer to the date.) Painting: 10am to 5pm Kids activities: Coloring, Face Painting w/ Crista Wakefield, Hollywood Library storytime Food from Hotlips Pizza
