This project was developed directly with residents living at the NAYA Generations housing development in the NW area of the Lents neighborhood. It is located along the Lents Green Ring, a loosely connected network of greenways that connect parks, schools, and other community amenities. We have incorporated global diversity in our painting to help celebrate the many cultural, ethnic, and racial identities in Lents. Our design incorporates musical instruments and biodiversity from the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia, as well as species like the sea turtle who travel the world. And we will have handprints representing the many residents--particularly youth--who live nearby. The project has been coordinated by Green Lents, with support from the Portland Bureau of Transportation "Portland in the Streets" grant and the Collins Foundation. We will host a block party to install the painting, celebrate, and connect people with opportunities to be active in the neighborhood.
SPECIAL THANK YOUS to Carla, Rhea, Amanda, Debra, Deanna, Selina, Jessica, Salena, Kesha, Delilah, Rebecca, Nafeesah, and Brandon. Gratitute to the Portland Bureau of Transportation "Portland in the Streets", City Repair, NAYA Generations, Collins Foundation for helping support the project.
